New Apple MacBook Pro (2021) Released: What’s New?
Apple’s Unleashed event is over and the tech giant has released quite a few new devices with the MacBook Pro 2021 as the most noticeable one. Both 14-inch and 16-inch models offer a wide array of upgrades in terms of performance while also including some previous features that we loved but slowly disappeared with new releases over time. So, what’s new? Let’s find out!
MacBook Pro 2021 Review
Let’s take a look at what has changed from preceding models to provide you with a quick review of the MacBook Pro 2021.
New M1 Pro & M1 Max chips
The MacBook Pro 2021 performs way better than last year’s MacBooks due to two new chips: M1 Pro and M1 Max. Without going into detail about the number of cores and other technical aspects, you can expect faster graphics and more memory to be able to perform multiple heavy tasks at once. Even better, the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips extend battery life to over 10 hours with the 2021 model running at full speed. That’s enough to get through the day without plugging in.
With no fewer than three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port and a slot in which you can insert SD Cards you can connect things to your MacBook Pro 2021 without having to use a dongle ever again. Even the beloved MagSafe is back so you can trip over the charging cable without having to worry about your laptop (although we still don’t recommend doing that). Ultimately, you might expect that Apple would remove the 3.5mm headphone jack as it previously did with iPhones and iPads but thankfully they didn’t.
Function keys are back
Gone are the days of the Touch Bar. It has finally been replaced by the trusted physical Fn-keys again which nearly all Apple users can appreciate. But there’s more. Apple now also says a definite goodbye to the butterfly keyboard since the new 2021 MacBook uses the same keyboard as the 2020 version although it is now surrounded by a stylish black anodized aluminium inset.
Other noteworthy changes
Some other noteworthy changes made to the MacBook Pro 2021:
- Liquid Retina XDR display with 3456 x 2234 screen resolution (1.8 million more pixels than before)
- Adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz
- Thinner screen bezels with 60% thinner top borders and the same notch as seen in the iPhone 13
- New aluminium enclosure with improved cooling
- Fast charging up to 50% battery in just 30 minutes
MacBook Pro 2021 Review: the Conclusion
With the new MacBook Pro 2021 Apple releases a more user friendly laptop. Although last year’s M1 model still is considered one of the best laptops on the market (tip: now greatly reduced in price) Apple takes it one step further surpassing itself in terms of speed and performance. This time it might be well worth its price.
